In one of our recent projects we were called in to remove a bathtub and install a new shower stall. The couple in the home are elderly and can no longer enter and exit the bathtub safely. After removing the tub surround it was evident that years of caulking hadn’t kept the water at bay. With drywall as the backer to the acrylic wall the mold had a good food source to grow.
After leveling the floor and building out the end wall to match the new wider shower we installed a four piece acrylic stall directly to the studs. The new unit consist of a solid pan and three wall sections that snap together to keep water from getting behind. The lower curb height of the shower stall makes it much easier to enter and exit. Combine that with the new grab handles, mounted directly to studs, and this is a much safer setup for the homeowners to use.
